Spotlight on 88 Acres Ingredients

We took into account multiple factors when determining who to partner with: safety for those with food allergies, local or US-based sourcing, and value alignment. It took us over a year to identify and form relationships with our current ingredient and packaging suppliers, a group of farms and partners which we’re extremely proud of.

Responsible Sourcing

We source from the best farms around, both locally and domestically wherever possible. We look to source from farms that are as close to our bakery in Dorchester as possible. Our maple syrup comes from Vermont and our cranberries are grown in Massachusetts. However, with some ingredients, local and allergy friendly sourcing is not possible, such as with our chocolate or ginger. We work with single source ingredient providers to reduce the risk of possible cross-contamination with top food allergens.

Our gluten-free certified oats are sourced from an industry leading oat only facility in Saskatchewan, which sources gluten-free oats from farmers who exclusively harvest oats to bring cross-contamination risk down to as close to zero as possible.

Craft Seed Blend

Our bars are all made with a craft seed base of pumpkin, sunflower, and flax. More on that in our previous post and on our Pinterest board.

New England Flavors

Both our Apple & Ginger and Triple Berry bars are inspired by New England flavors. Apple & ginger includes pumpkin pie spice, and tastes like fall.  Triple berry is reminiscent of grandma’s summer pies with a mix of blueberry, cranberry, and zante currants.


Fifteen million people have food allergies in the U.S., and millions more suffer from food sensitivities such as lactose and gluten intolerance. Born from Rob’s nut allergies, 88 Acres product recipes were created free of the eight allergens that account for 90% of allergic reactions. Read more about our allergen statements on our FAQ page.

Premium Ingredients

Our crystallized ginger comes from Fiji and is the flavor pop which most wins over hearts and mouths. A 3rd generation Italian chocolatier produces our chocolate, which is free from both emulsifiers and nuts, dairy, and soy. Our Sun Muscat raisins are grown in the wine region of Australia, where they are picked from remaining grapes not used for the harvest, dried and imported.
